Curtains close on research methodology workshop

The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), through the Research, Documentation and Recognition Division, recently organised a cultural research methodology workshop in conjunction with the Language Month 2022 celebration.

The workshop ran from October 1 until yesterday at Sarmayuda Hall, DBP Berakas and research locations nationwide including Balai Raya Kampong Menengah in Temburong District, the Senior Citizens Activity centre (PKWE) in Tutong, DBP Kampong Pandang in Belait and PKWE in Brunei-Muara.

A closing ceremony was held at Sarmayuda Hall and saw the presentation of certificates to the moderator and participants by DBP Acting Director Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak.

Head of Research, Documentation and Recognition Hajah Haireni binti Haji Awang Damit in her capacity as the chairperson of the workshop said the workshop aimed to provide a platform and opportunity for participants to acquire skills and learn about cultural research, especially in field studies research that employ the interviewing method.

“Participants were also taught how to conduct efficient and good interviews,” she added. She also said, ” The culture research carried out in the four districts provides an opportunity for participants to collect quality and comprehensive data.”

Some 40 participants comprising officers and staff at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) as well as lecturers and students of Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The workshop was facilitated by culture expert Dr Haji Hashim bin Haji Abdul Hamid.
