Cultural performance adds colour to royal birthday

THE stage performances opposite the Royal Regalia Museum that marks His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 73rd birthday celebration continued on Friday night with the Semarak Budaya cultural performance organised by the Ustaz Firdaus (UF) Academy.

Acting Director of Arts and Culture at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Haji Mohd Abdoh bin Haji Awang Damit was the guest of honour.

Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Putera Maharaja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Ghani bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Dewa Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Rahim was also present.

The event featured choir performances, theatre shows, traditional dances, poetry presentations and local musical performances. “The performance is meant to enliven the 73rd birthday of His Majesty as well as to empower local culture, arts and literature,” said Haji Mohd Firdaus bin Orang Kaya Kaya Haji Nordin.

UF Academy, established in October 2017, has a vision of developing and upholding education, training, motivation, religious, entrepreneurship, culture and arts, literature as well as creative and non-creative writing.

Since its formation, UF Academy has carried out creative and non-creative writing workshops, poetry recitals, book post-mortems, Islamic poetry multimedia theatrical performances, expos and other activities.
