    Cultivating a reading culture

International School Brunei (ISB) Satellite School in Seria concluded its annual Book Week with a grand parade where students dressed up as characters from their favourite books yesterday.

Led by English Lead Teacher Sophie Wilson, the week-long event aimed to promote the love of reading and encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities.

Other activities conducted during the week included a virtual sharing session with American poet Kenn Nesbitt via Zoom, Lunch Time reading clubs to discuss stories that the students had read, art activities to help further bring students into the universe that they are reading and book swap.

“We believe that reading is the key to everything, and for the children to pursue their dreams in the future; the need to have good literacy is very important. In addition, reading also helps to fuel their imagination and creativity, especially among younger children, so that they are more equipped to further develop their skills and character throughout their academic journey, ” Wilson said

ISB will continue to hold the Book Week annually and other programmes to broaden students’ views and knowledge while encouraging interaction and learning outside of the classroom.

Students also participated in reading buddy activity where senior students read out stories for the juniors.
