Cultivating a reading culture

International School Brunei (ISB) recently celebrated book week themed ‘Stories From Around The World’ in celebration of love for reading, characters, and authors.

The week-long event allowed students, teachers and parents to share books and stories from their countries and cultures. The week began with a ‘Stories By The Fire’ evening where students and their families enjoyed stories shared around the world.

A short story competition was also held, and entries were read out during lunchtime throughout the week.

Students were also inspired in writing and gained writing tips from local author Dr Aammton Alias.

Throughout the week, students added books to their personal libraries with books bought from Dr Alias and the book fair.

On ‘Dress Up Day’, students and teachers arrived in school dressed as their favourite book characters. Several activities and quizzes related to books and reading were also held. The annual celebration is aimed at inspiring students at ISB and cultivating their curiosity through the discovery of new books and authors.
