The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) launched its ‘Kritikan Sastera 2020’ workshop at its Balai Sarmayuda, Old Airport, Berakas yesterday.

Acting Director of DBP and guest of honour Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab said that critical writing is a piece that reflects observation, evaluation another writing that can serve as a guidance for the author to create better and amazing work.

He added that a critic has a great responsibility in assessing the quality of a work in a more accurate manner, based on a particular theory or approach.

In critical writing, the critics should be rational in their approach and consider the writing fairly, rather than degrading or seeking the author’s weaknesses, he said.

The workshop, which will be conducted once every two years, hopes to generate skilled critics capable of mastering critical literature writing.

Dr Haji Ramlee bin Haji Tinkong and Dr Maslin bin Haji Jukim/Jukin are facilitating the three-day workshop that ends tomorrow.
