The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) personnel on Wednesday night foiled an attempted smuggling of 30 cartons of cigarettes in the forested area of Kampong Menunggol, Brunei-Muara District during a COVID-19 Task Force operation.
According to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), enforcement personnel were conducting a patrol when they heard a noise believed to have come from a motorcycle exhaust, which led them to finding several individuals unloading suspicious items.
Noticing the presence of the patrolling team, the individuals fled the scene and left behind a motorcycle and a package believed to contain contraband.
The Kampong Ayer Police Station personnel were immediately contacted. Upon investigation, 30 cartons of cigarettes were found inside the package.
The contraband and the motorcycle were handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further investigation.
