COVID infection rate climbs to 2.1 per cent

The national tally of confirmed cases climbed to 16,293 after 41 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the Sultanate yesterday. Of this, 32 are local and nine imported.

The new cases were detected through 1,963 laboratory tests conducted in the last 24 hours, according to a Ministry of Health (MoH) statement.

The infection rate of positive cases increased to 2.1 per cent.

Meanwhile, 55 cases recovered, bringing the number of recoveries to 15,842. The country now has 349 active cases with a 7.9 per cent bed occupancy rate at isolation centres.

One case in Category 4 requires oxygen assistance and is under close monitoring.

Meanwhile, as of January 27, 94.8 per cent of the total population had received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 93.9 per cent at least two doses and 39.2 per cent had received the booster shot. No violations were detected yesterday from midnight to 4am during the movement restriction measures.
