COVID-19: Three new cases in Brunei

There was a drop in the number of new COVID-19 cases in Brunei Darussalam yesterday with an addition of only three confirmed cases. The total of COVID-19 cases in the country is now 91.

To further strengthen the detection of COVID-19 cases in the country, the Ministry of Health (MoH) will carry out laboratory test for people carrying out self-isolation in the designated facilities provided by the government as well as people carrying out self-isolation at their respective houses.

Priority will be given to specific groups such as those who share rooms in isolation.

The latest details were revealed by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar at a press conference at the ministry’s Al-’Afiah Hall yesterday.

Explaining about each of the new cases, the minister said, “Case 89 is a 51-year-old man who is a work contact of Case 69. He started to have fever and cough on March 16.

“Case 90 is a 40-year-old man who is also work contact of case 69. He started to have fever and cough on March 14.

“Case 91 is a 36-year-old woman who returned to the country on March 20 on Royal Brunei Airlines flight BI796 seated at 32A following a vacation in Surabaya, Indonesia with her family and friend. She had fever, headache and flu on March 21.”

The minister added 89 cases are receiving treatment in the National Isolation Centre. One is in critical condition and in need of respiratory assistance; three cases are being closely monitored while the remaining cases are in stable condition.

The minister said 1,634 persons are under quarantine in accordance with the Infectious Diseases Act, Chapter 204, while 282 persons have completed their quarantine and are in stable condition.

“Since early January 2020, 3,191 laboratory tests for Covid-19 have been carried out”.
