The public is encouraged to continue to donate for the COVID-19 Relief Fund. The donation will be used to fund expenditures to combat the COVID-19 outbreak in the country including the newly built National Isolation Centre (NIC) in the Tutong District.

The appeal for more donation was made by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah during the press conference to update on the COVID-19 situation in the country. On the total amount collected for Brunei Darussalam’s COVID-19 Relief Fund, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew revealed, “Brunei Darussalam’s COVID-19 Relief Fund reached BND9,824,842.80 as of 2.25pm.”

He said, “The last time we announced the figure of the fund, it was about BND6 million. We have allocated more than BND4 million for the fight against COVID-19.”

With the current amount having been raised to more than BND9 million, the minister said, “There are more options in front of us now. We could use this to fund certain expenditures that we couldn’t before and probably not the same ones as before.

“We are contemplating using the fund for the new NIC that costs more than BND11 million to construct. Should this fund exceed the cost of building, it can then be used to fund the new NIC. It would be welcome news for the public that the new NIC was funded from the COVID-19 Relief Fund.”
