THE Magistrate’s Court yesterday remitted to the Intermediate Court a case concerning counterfeit money, after a local man was charged with fraud by the prosecution last month.
No date for the mention of the case has been furnished by the Intermediate Court.
Sudiman bin Mat Yassin, 37, is alleged to have committed the offence by using a piece of counterfeit BND500 to pay for a toy gun purchase from a man worth BND280, sometime between 10pm to 10.30pm on March 2, 2018, at the Jerudong Park Playground car park.
A second allegation states that the defendant possessed six pieces of BND100 notes, seven pieces of BND50 notes, 10 pieces of BND20 notes, one piece of BND10 note, 14 pieces of RM50 notes and nine pieces of RM10 counterfeit notes in his car at the Criminal Investigation Department, Royal Brunei Police Force headquarters in Gadong, at 9.48pm on August 28.
DPP Qhairul Azim bin Nayan’s charges against the defendant carry penalties of jail terms ranging from 10 to 15 years and fines.
Acting Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar presided over the case.
Sudiman’s application for bail for the defendant in the Intermediate Court was granted by Judge Pengiran Masni, with the bail set at BND10,000 or two local sureties, alongside other strict conditions.
