Convention concludes with certificate presentation

Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman as the guest of honour officiated the closing ceremony and the certificate presentation for the School Leaders Convention 2020 at the Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam yesterday.

The ceremony began with the presentation of the School Leaders Commitment on Learning Support Framework by a representative of the participants Dzulbahrin bin Haji Sulaiman followed by the presentation of certificates by the minister.

The minister presented the official appointment letters to seven new School Leaders 2020 followed by the School Incentive Award presentation where the School Incentive Award recognises schools showing significant achievement and improvement in the Primary School Assessment (PSR), BCGCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level results for 2019.

Seventy-two School Incentive Awards were presented and for the first time this year, the School Incentive Award was given based on the performance in Whole-School Evaluation (WSE).

These awards are made up of 11 schools under the category of excellence in PSR, 26 schools received incentives for schools that showed improvement percentage of Grade A to Grade C from 2017 to 2019 category and one school receiving the incentive award for schools achieving 90 per cent above on Grade A to Grade C from 2017 to 2019 category.

In the BCGCE ‘O’ Level/IGCSE 2019, two schools received the incentives for reaching or passing the target of 60 per cent in getting five ‘O’ Level and above category, nine schools received incentives for schools that showed percentage raise from 2017 to 2019 in getting five ‘O’ Levels and above category.

As for the BCGCE ‘A’ Levels, two sixth form centres received incentives for schools reaching or passing the 80 per cent mark in getting three ‘A’ Levels and above category and two schools received incentives for schools that showed improvement percentage from 2017 to 2019 for three ‘A’ levels and above. As a way forward for this School Leaders Convention 2020, the participants were given the opportunity to form components of School Leaders Convention 2021.

Deputy Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE Dr Chin Wei Keh, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, directors, heads of clusters and senior officers of the MoE were also present. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Educators Management and Department of Schools, MoE.

More than 500 participants attended the convention including the heads of departments, divisions and units under MoE, school leaders from government, private and international schools as well as Arabic secondary schools.
