The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) seized 191 cans of beer and 23 bottles of liquor after foiling a smuggling attempt at the Pulau Chermin area on Sunday.

According to the RBPF, police personnel noticed the sound of a boat engine during a night patrol at the landing areas of Kampong Mentiri. Upon noticing police presence, a vehicle at the landing area sped away while a boat quickly headed out from the river towards the sea.

Several boxes and packages were found floating in the river believed to be contraband, which was brought to the Marine Police Headquarters for further investigation. The case was transferred to the Royal Customs and Excise Department.

On Saturday, 720 cans of beer and 120 bottles of alcohol were seized. The driver of the vehicle, who was allegedly transporting the contraband on the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge towards Brunei-Muara District, was also detained.

The RBPF will continue to conduct patrols and eradicate any criminal activities along the borders and waterways in the country.
