The National Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition is not only an effort to produce youth who are proficient in reading Al-Quran, but also to instil a love for Al-Quran reading among the younger generation, said Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
The minister said this at the finals of the National Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition for 1442Hijrah/2020 at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports’ (MCYS) DiGadong Hall
The competition is also a platform to guide youth to strengthen their moral values as an Ummah, as emphasised by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam during a titah at Maulidur Rasul 1442 Hijrah celebration, the minister added.
“When other strengths are lost, it is the moral values that will forever be at the core of excellent human civilisation,” said the minister.
The event was also in line with His Majesty’s call for youth programmes that help to develop great character that can balance between the needs of duniawi and ukhrawi.
“As future leaders, these traits must be present and inculcated by our youth so that they posses excellent values that inculcate Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) ethics and principles,” he said.
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar; permanent secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries at the MCYS and Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), as well as senior officers at the MCYS were also present.
