Connecting children with trees

Hakim Hayat

To inspire the community to fight for climate change for healthier, longer and better lives for all, AIA Brunei held its first Tree Planting event in conjunction with World Environment Day on Saturday.

Among those involved in the project were children, who were asked to name the trees. This symbolises a connection between the child and their tree and to increase environmental awareness. One tree was named ‘Eddie’ by a little boy with project.

The initiative, led by Green Brunei, also aims to contribute to global reforestation efforts, while raising awareness on the importance of protecting our environment.

The event kicked off with a welcoming speech by AIA Brunei’s General Manager Kenneth Ling followed by a safety and event briefing by the founder of Green Brunei Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari.

“We breathe in the oxygen we need and pay very little attention in preserving it. They said the best time to plant a tree is 25 years ago. The next best time is today,” Ling said.
