The Fiqh Al-Zakat Education International Conference co-organised by the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) and the Department of Islamic Religious Council, Ministry of Religious Affairs, will be held from tomorrow until June 7 at the Musyawarah Hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
Dean of Syariah Faculty at KUPU SB Dr Haji Noralizam bin Haji Aliakbar in his capacity as the co-chairman of the conference, yesterday, said the event will be officiated by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah.
Themed ‘Empowering the socio-economy of Muslims through Zakat’, the conference seeks to empower the position of zakat at the local, national and global levels by identifying issues related to zakat theoretically and practically.
Through presentations, it is hoped to discuss the results of research and studies related to zakat and present solutions to the issues, while also highlighting comparative ideology in proving that Islam benefits life in all aspects and explaining issues related to Islamic economics from the Syariah point of view.
Among the sub-themes of the conference include Fiqh Al-Zakat – concept, philosophy and thought as well as its relation to the economy, Al-Quran and Al-Sunnah perspectives on zakat and waqaf; the role of zakat institutions in the economic development of Islam and the Ummah; contemporary issues and challenges of zakat institutions in the present, administration and management of zakat institutions and best practices of zakat management.
Three papers, four main papers and over 10 papers will be presented in the two-day conference.
Presenters of the premiere papers are Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar on ‘Empowering the Socio-Economy of Muslims through Zakat’; Mufti of the Federal Territory of Malaysia Sahibus Samahah Datuk Dr Luqman bin Abdullah on ‘Empowering the socio-economy of Muslims through Zakat: Contemporary Issues and Challenges’; and Dato Seri Setia Haji Metussin bin Haji Baki on ‘Presentation on Empowering the Management and Administration of Zakat in Advancing the Socio-Economy of Muslims: Challenges and Expectations’.
Meanwhile, the main papers will be presented by Acting Secretary of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Syariah and Law Faculty Assistant Professor Dr Hajah Mas Nooraini binti Haji Mohiddin, and Deputy Mufti of Selangor Malaysia Sahibus Samahah Dato’ Dr Haji Anhar bin Haji Opir.
Working papers will be presented by academics from KUPU SB, UNISSA, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Islam Malang (UNISMA) and Prince of Songkhlang of Thailand.
