Conference focusses on developing global Halal industry

UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through the Halalan Tayyiban Research Centre together with Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS) of the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Japan Society for Halal Science and Technology (JAHAS), Osaka University, Japan, and Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) organised the 4th International Halal Conference 2019 (NHAC 2019) on April 22-23 at the Osaka University, Japan.

The NHAC 2019 is a platform for researchers, academics and industries to share information and research findings as well as experiences in Halal industry.

The conference also served as discussion area and exchange of current information on Halal research to empower policy, strategy and existing plans to further develop the global Halal industry.

Senior Executive Director of International Relations, Department of Civil and Cultural Affairs, Osaka Prefectural Government Hironori Harimoto officiated the conference.

Also in attendance were Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Chairman of INHAC 2019 Professor Dr Muhamad Rahimi Osman, JAHAS’ President Professor Dr Hisao Tomizawa and Professor Dr Eiichi Tamiya, as representative of Osaka University.

In his welcoming remark, the Rector of UNISSA expressed the hope that the conference will help understand issues related to Halalan Tayyiban through scientific discussion.

With the theme ‘Enhancing Halal Sustainability’, it focussed on four keynote presentations from Assistant Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs UiTM Professor Dr Azizan Abdullah as representative of Vice-Chancellor UiTM Professor Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim, Professor Dr Quamrul Hassan from Centre for Global Initiatives, Osaka University, Director of Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre of UNISSA Associate Professor Dr Nurdeng Deuraseh and Director of Secretariat of the Malaysian Halal Council Dato’ Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee.

182 participants took part in the two-day seminar that saw various presentations from several countries.

A business forum was also conducted.

The Rector of UNISSA also paid a courtesy call to the President of Osaka University Professor Dr Nishio Shojiro and other executive officers to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Osaka University and UNISSA had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 16, 2017, and have organised student exchange programme in the field of Halal Science.
