Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof yesterday received an official visit from Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (US INDOPACOM) Admiral Philip S Davidson.
Upon arrival at the Ministry of Defence at Bolkiah Garrison yesterday, Admiral Davidson was accorded a guard of honour mounted by personnel from the Second Battalion, Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF).
He then proceeded to pay separate courtesy calls to the Minister of Defence II and Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud.
During the courtesy calls, both sides affirmed the longstanding and close defence relationship between Brunei Darussalam and the United States of America which continues to grow and strengthen over the years through extensive bilateral engagements.
The relations between the two countries are further bolstered by regular defence interactions, where the RBAF actively engages in joint exercises, training programmes and other military cooperation with the United States.
Both sides also cooperate at the multilateral level through the Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training (SEACAT), as well as through the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) framework.
They also noted the successful conduct of the ASEAN – United States Maritime Exercise held from September 2-6.
Admiral Davidson’s visit also included an audience with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
This is Admiral Philip’s first visit to Brunei Darussalam since his appointment on May 30, 2018.
