The Mashhor Group of Companies (MGC) has made strides in localising maritime services, according to its chairman Malai Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Malai Mashor.

The group has reached over 70 per cent of local workforce hiring, and now, under its subsidiary Petro Laut Sdn Bhd is servicing the oil and gas industry with their very own marine vessel Mashhor Princess, said the chairman at a Doa Selamat ceremony for the ship on Monday.

The Mashhor Princess leaves for its next deployment tomorrow.

MGC acquired the Mashhor Princess from a Singapore company in 2021, a workboat with accomodations for 238 persons, a 100-tonne capacity crane and a helicopter landing facility.

The Mashhor Princess’ helideck and boat landing services are operated fully by locals.

As an MGC subsidiary, Petro Laut is being developed and managed by a team of local employees who have experience in the maritime business.

The company has given local employees a chance to gain good experience in the field, and has successfully registered with the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam. The company is working hand in hand with other operators to gain more experience.

Petro Laut is also operating for four utility service vessels – Mashhor 1, Mashhor 2, Mashhor TOPAZ, Mashhor RUBY – under Mashhor Offshore Painting Services Sdn Bhd.
