Five individuals including a local were each levied a compound fine of BND100 yesterday by Law Enforcement Division of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department after they were found disposing rubbish in public areas of BSB, Serusop and Beribi during a routine operation.
Local Muhammad Hazwan bin Haji Bakar, Sumarto from Indonesia and Amanul Hoque, Md Shahed Hasan and Md Parvej from Bangladesh were fined under Chapter 30, Section 12 (1) of the Minor Offences Act.
Meanwhile, a company was issued a compound fine by the Enforcement Unit of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board under the Minor Offence Act Chapter 30, Section 12 (1) (a).
Gedung Perniagaan Indah Mewah Sdn Bhd, Seria Branch was issued a compound fine of BND200 for disposing empty and folded cardboard boxes in a public area located behind the business premises at No 27-29, Jalan Sultan Omar ‘Ali, Seria.
They were granted a seven day period to settle the fine.
If the company or individual fails to settle the fine, the matter will be referred to court. For first-time offenders, the penalty is a fine of BND1,000 or a month’s imprisonment.
For repeat offenders, the punishment is a BND3,000 fine, or an imprisonment of not more than three months.
The Law Enforcement Division will continue to conduct inspections in areas under the jurisdiction of the BSB Municipal Department.
Members of the public are urged to dispose unwanted items at allocated bins, while companies are reminded to maintain standards of hygiene and comply with regulations under the Minor Offences Act.
