A local company and five individuals were recently issued fines for littering in public areas, the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department said yesterday.
Enforcement officers from the BSB Municipal Department found discarded electrical items, a used gypsum board and cigarette butts during a routine patrol of Bunut and Serusop.
Syarikat Rahmat Sdn Bhd was fined BND200 while permanent resident Maslan bin Asli, Mohammad Fahmi from India, Abdul Romne Ni-Loh and Aslee Yee-Uma from Thailand and Md Abu Salek from Bangladesh were each fined BND100.
In a separate patrol named Operasi Pajah 1/2020, three individuals were fined BND100 each for throwing cigarette butts from vehicles in Jalan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha, Jalan Kampong Kiulap and Tasek Lama.
The offenders were locals Ang Boon Hiong and Nur Syafiq Syazwan bin Suhaili, and Chang Siang Fatt from Malaysia.
They were given seven days to pay their fines at the Finance Division of the BSB Municipal Department. Failure to do so would result in a further fine of BND1,000 or a month’s imprisonment, for the first convicted offence.
For subsequent offences, the penalty is a fine of BND3,000 and a prison term of up to three months.
The BSB Municipal Department welcomes public information on violations of the Minor Offences Act, and looks forward to working with other enforcement agencies in the country.
