Company fined for littering

A company was slapped with a BND2,000 compound fine by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) on September 12 for illegally disposing of rubbish at Kampong Serasa.

The fine was issued in accordance with Chapter 12 (1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021. The offender, which the department had identified as Pahaytc Sdn Bhd, was given seven days to settle the fine. Failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court.

If guilty, they will face a fine between BND2,000 and BND10,000 for the first offence, and between BND10,000 and BND30,000, imprisonment of no more than 12 months, or both, for subsequent offences.

The agency reminded the public, especially companies and owners of commercial premises, to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings and not to dispose of rubbish in public areas. – DANIEL LIM
