    Company fined for improper transport of waste

    The Enforcement Division of the Belait District Office issued a BND500 fine for a local company under Section 12(1)(d), Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act on May 13 as a result of sand and material falling onto the road from a moving vehicle.

    The company was given seven days to settle the fine. Failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court.

    If found guilty, a further fine of not less than BND2,000 and no more than BND10,000 will be handed. Subsequent offences will see a penalty of no less than BND10,000 and no more than BND30,000 fine or imprisonment of no less than 12 months.

    Meanwhile, individuals caught violating the Act will also face similar fines of no less than BND1,000 and no more than BND3,000, while subsequent offences will see a penalty of no less than BND3,000 and no more than BND9,000 fine or imprisonment of no less than six months.
