Company fined BND1K for illegal dumping

The Enforcement Unit of the Tutong District Office issued a BND1,000 compound fine to a company last week for illegally disposing rubbish in public areas, violating Section 12(1)(d), Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021.

The company was given seven days to settle the fine.

The failure to comply will result in the case being brought to court, where a guilty verdict could result in a fine between BND2,000 and BND10,000.

For a second or subsequent offence, penalties could include fines ranging from BND10,000 to BND30,000, imprisonment or both.

The enforcement unit, part of the Licensing and Enforcement Division of the Tutong District Office, reminded the public, companies, and business premise owners to uphold cleanliness, particularly in commercial and public areas, by refraining from disposing, piling, or leaving litter in public spaces. – James Kon
