THE Magistrate’s Court sentenced a company driver to eight months of imprisonment on Saturday for stealing scaffolding material worth over BND10,000 from his employer, Sahid Sdn Bhd.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Sabrina binti Haji Mahmud informed the court that Md Abul Hossain, a 43-year-old Bangladeshi citizen, had set out with a co-worker in a company pick-up truck towards Sahid Sdn Bhd’s Natural Gas Compression Plant in the Kuala Belait Industrial Area at 4.40pm on February 20.

He loaded the pick-up truck with the company’s scaffolding material and brought them over to Daikyo Industrial Gas Sdn Bhd.

Earlier, the defendant had liaised with a Daikyo worker, offering to sell him the scaffolding material.

But on failing to locate that worker, he dropped the material at the Daikyo plant and left.

Five days later, the General Manager of Sahid Sdn Bhd, acting on intuition, told his logistics coordinator to check through the Internal Vehicle Monitor System to see if any of the company vehicles had been driven to Kuala Belait between February 20 and 24.

The logistics coordinator found a record of the defendant’s journey, which led to a police report and the defendant’s subsequent arrest.

The scaffolding material, which have since been recovered, are valued at BND10, 744.20.

Presiding Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran Haji Md Yusof further made an order for the return of Sahid Sdn Bhd’s belongings.
