Companies hit with fines for illegal dumping

    James Kon

Two companies were slapped with compound fines last week by the Enforcement Unit of the Tutong District Office for illegally disposing rubbish in public areas.

Both companies violated Section 12(1)(a), Chapter 30, of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021 and was slapped with a BND500 fine.

Offenders were given seven days to settle the fine. The failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court.

If found guilty, they will face a fine between BND2,000 and BND10,000 for the first offence, and between BND10,000 and BND30,000, imprisonment of no more than 12 months, or both, for subsequent offences.

The agency reminded the public, especially companies and owners of commercial premises, to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings and not dispose rubbish in public areas.
