Cluster 3 emerge overall champions in BDSG

Cluster 3 emerged as the overall champions of the 2nd Brunei Darussalam Schools Games (BDSG), securing a dominant victory with a medal haul of 49 gold, 34 silver and 14 bronze medals.
 
Cluster 2 claimed the runner-up position with a total of 15 gold, 19 silver and 27 bronze medals, while Cluster 1 rounded out the top three with 13 gold, 14 silver and 16 bronze medals.
 
The BDSG concluded with a closing ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Education through the Department of Co-Curriculum Education at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
 
Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh was the guest of honour.
 
The final day of the multi-sport event witnessed exciting competitions, including the 100-metre (m) finals for both boys’ and girls’ athletes with different abilities (OKU), as well as the 4x100m relays for boys and girls.

Cluster 5’s Amersson Ringkhai anak Anthony secured gold in the 100m boys (OKU) category with a time of 13.02 seconds, while Nabiela Messenger binti Md Hafiz Safwan from Cluster 2 clinched gold in the 100m girls (OKU) category with a time of 16.93 seconds.
 
Cluster 2’s 4x100m boys’ relay team, comprising Ali Mohd Radin Nazrin bin Pengiran Baharuddin, Md Hanniq Haziezie bin Abdullah Md Ariffin, Md Hafizuddin bin Abdullah and Muhd Nazul Putera Faeiz Firdaous, shattered the games record with a time of 47.02 seconds. 
 
The 4x100m girls’ relay team from Cluster 4, consisting of Anastasia Tee Chia Ann, Julie Lim Li Yin, Siti Nurul Azimah binti Yusup and Dayangku Amyrah Syazwana binti Pengiran Saifulrizam, secured gold in their event.
 
The closing ceremony featured a march past by all participating clusters, as well as technical officials and volunteers who contributed to the success of the BDSG.
 
Swimmer Wong Kai Jie from Cluster 3 was awarded the best boy athlete after winning eight gold and two silver medals, while teammate Leilani Stowers claimed the best girl athlete title with four gold and one silver medal.
 
This year’s edition of the BDSG set eight new games records in swimming, including three new national records, and 20 new games records in athletics.
 
The tournament, which officially commenced on November 18, featured seven sports: basketball, netball, badminton, swimming, sepak takraw, pencak silat and athletics. A total of 911 student-athletes and 323 contingent officers participated in the event. – Fadhil Yunus
