CJ Technical Services edge Halif and Sons to lift Aewon Cup

CJ Technical Services emerged champions of the Aewon Cup Men’s Basketball Open 2019 after edging Halif and Sons 73-72 in a tightly contested final at the New Village Mutual Aid Basketball Court in Seria on Thursday night.

Halif and Sons started the game strong against the eventual champions and finished the first quarter 13-21. However, their lead was cut as CJ Technical Services pushed on the offence to finish the second period even at 36-36.

CJ Technical Services ramped up their game in the third quarter as a player scored a stunning three-pointer at the buzzer, finishing his team with a slight advantage. Halif and Sons replied with another three-pointer at the start of the fourth quarter to start off a competitive finale.

They earned two points to bring the score even 72-72 with only 20 seconds left. As the match seemed to go into overtime, Halif and Sons were called for a foul with only two seconds left. CJ Technical Services scored the penalty shootout and won the game.

In the third place match, Filipino Elite Baller defeated Holland Slot 88-72.

General Manager for Aewon Sherwood Protective Apparel (B) Sdn Bhd Justin Hong Ping Khiong presented the prizes.

Halif and Sons’ Jayson Ortiz Gisalan was named the most valuable player of the tournament.
