Chinese community offers financial help for virus fight in Wuhan

Members of the Chinese community led by Managing Director of GHK Motors Sdn Bhd Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin yesterday led a courtesy visit to Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong seeking advice on how the Chinese community can contribute cash to Wuhan, the epicentre of the Covid-19 virus.

The Chinese community in the country is eyeing to channel donation to the Hubei Charity Federation and the Red Cross Society of China.

In an interview, the ambassador said it is heartwarming to see that China receives plenty of support from different countries, governments, and from people to people.

“The Chinese community in the country also expressed their support, care and best wishes to the people in China. It is a touching gesture and appreciation from Brunei people for the sacrifices made by the people who work at the frontier,” she said.

“It is a joint effort with China and other countries to fight this epidemic. I am very confident we will win this battle and we can move freely in the future without masks,” she added.

Also present during the visit were Lau How Teck of Hua Ho Department Store, President of Chinese Chamber of Commerce Malcolm Lim, Lau Shiew Yuen of Sahid Sdn Bhd and other prominent Chinese community members.
