BEIJING (XINHUA) – China’s garment industry saw steady recovery in August from the bites of the COVID-19 outbreak amid the country’s effective epidemic control and global demand rebounds.
Retail sales of major garment enterprises reversed the downward trend by gaining 4.4 per cent year-on-year in August, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Exports of clothing and accessories rose 3.23 per cent, registering positive growth for the first time this year, MIIT data showed.
During the January-August period, the total retail sales of major garment enterprises stood at CNY488.78 billion (about USD73.3 billion), down 16.9 per cent year-on-year. The decline narrowed by 2.7 percentage points from the first seven months.
