China reports high dairy product quality

TIANJIN (Xinhua) – Over 99.9 per cent of China’s dairy products have met national quality standard for five consecutive years, said the country’s top quality watchdog.

According to sample tests, the safety and nutrition level of the country’s dairy products is nearly the same as that of international products, official with the State Administration for Market Regulation Ma Chunliang said at the 10th Dairy Conference of

China that closed yesterday in Tianjin.

China has been upgrading its dairy industry with improved supply-chain management and safety supervision, as the country’s growing consumer power calls for high-quality and more diverse dairy products.

The country aims to maintain a self-sufficiency ratio of baby formula above 60 per cent to meet the growing demand, according to an official plan released in June.

Per capita consumption of dairy products reached 34.3kg in 2018, 76 times that in 1949.
