Children’s book corner launched to promote reading

A reading corner featuring 120 books was officially launched yesterday at Peachtree Playhouse to instil the love of reading among children with the cooperation of the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP).

Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan officiated the launch.

In her welcoming speech, Peachtree Playhouse Centre Manager Maydelyn Ling binti Mohammad Tony Ling said the preschool is in full support of the reading initiative and looks forward to working with the DBP to foster a reading culture in the Sultanate.

She added that Peachtree Playhouse will make full use of the reading corner and spread the love of reading to its preschool children.

The newly-launched reading corner features an array of books including picture books, fairy tales, and nursery rhymes.

New books will be introduced in a period of three to six months cycle in accordance with the request of the preschool. Also present at the event was Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the MCYS Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah.
