Charity continues to flow during Ramadhan

Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd held a presentation of donations to 20 underprivileged families and orphans from Kampong Serasa, Kapok, Muara and Meragang at Al-Fath Hall, Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) Headquarters as part of the company’s annual corporate social responsibility initiative to lighten the burden of families and orphans for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.

Legislative Council member and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Serasa Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman was the guest of honour.

Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii was also present.

Guest of honour and Chief Executive Officer of Hengyi Chen Lian Cai presented the donations.

A total of BND7,642, as well as basic necessities and household items, were contributed by Hengyi management and staff.

TAIB

Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) together with its subsidiaries, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd (IITH) and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd (DHSB) reached out to underprivileged families through Barakah Bainal Anam donation drive from March 30 until April 8.

Thirty families across all four districts comprising orphans, single mothers, senior citizens and special needs individual listed under the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and four former TAIB staff members received daily necessities and hygiene products.

The donation was part of the TAIB corporate social responsibility aimed at giving back to the community and brings festive cheers to the recipients in the spirit of Ramadhan and Hari Raya.

Deputy Managing Director of TAIB Haji Osman bin Md Jair, Acting Managing Director of IITH Hajah Nornaimah binti Haji Zainip, and Managing Director of DHSB Haji Mahmud bin Haji Mohamed led the delegation.

Universiti Teknologi Brunei

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) through its Student Affairs Office and UTB Student Representative Council (MPPUTB) organised its fourth Ramadhan Drive 4.0 to enliven the holy month of Ramadhan.

This initiative which began in 2018, is part of the university’s continuous efforts to reach out to the community and alleviate the burden of those in need.

Over BND8,000 and in-kind items were collected from UTB staff and students beginning April 7.

Under the Ramadhan Drive 4.0, several charity drives were initiated including a donation drive for underprivileged families – a distribution of donation comprising a wheelchair, basic food and cleaning supplies and toiletries to 12 underprivileged families particularly those with health issues.

In the programme Waqaf, Fardhu Kifayah sets, grass-cutter machines, vacuum cleaners, fans and cleaning supplies were presented to selected mosques in the country.

Meanwhile, donation for Islamic cemeteries’ needs saw umbrellas, metal rakes, chairs and cleaning supplies distributed to cemeteries in Brunei-Muara District on April 24.

Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali

Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through its Student Affairs Division yesterday held its sixth Ramadhan Food Drive to distribute basic food items and expenses to alleviate the burden of underprivileged families.

The activity was part of the annual UNISSA student programme under the Welfare and Community Unit, Student Representative Council 2021. Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal presented the donations to 17 families in Kampong Buda-Buda, Belais and Selapon in Temburong District.

These donations were proceeds from UNISSA’s Charity Sale and Leisure Activities projects organised by UNISSA Student Representative Council as well as contributions from individuals.

The programme aimed to help the community in rural areas and encourage students to participate in charity.

The UNISSA Student Representative Council also organised the breaking of fast at the RPN Kampong Rataie Mosque, Temburong District and distributed meal packs to residents in the surrounding area.

The delegation also participated in the recitation of Tahlil, mass Sunnat Tarawikh prayers and Tedarus Al-Quran at the mosque.

Youth Development Centre

The Youth Development Centre (PPB) of Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Kampong Tanah Jambu yesterday hosted its second Kasih Ramadhan for 51 orphans.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin was the guest of honour.

PPB distributed mini hampers comprising cakes and biscuits made by PPB trainers and trainees, as well as items donated by PPB’s strategic partners and individuals.

According to Assistant Director of PPB Fauziah binti Haji Md Salleh, apart from instilling the spirit of giving and charity, the event also exposed trainees to community work with PPB skills attained during training.

The event was also aimed at developing a ‘social provider’ method among trainees, especially in carrying out charity.

The donations were presented by the guest of honour in an event that also saw the recitation of Tahlil to remember the departed.

Senior Citizen Association

Members of the Senior Citizen Association in Belait District organised Amal Jariah Project at the surrounding premises of Tudong Saji recently.

More than 20 boxes filled with donated clothing were distributed to those in need, in line with the teachings of the faith during the holy month.

The association also plans to distribute bubur and hold more charity events during the fasting month.

Emperor’s Court Restaurant

A total of BND6,201.20 was raised for the Brunei-Muara District Fund for Orphan in the 4th Dine & Donate at Emperor’s Court on Monday night in Manggis Mall.

The event received an encouraging response from the public where all proceeds and donations from the Sungkai buffet were directed to the Brunei-Muara District Fund for Orphan.

Brunei-Muara District Officer Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim attended.

Following the Sungkai dinner and the counting of the proceeds as well as donation, Emperor’s Court Restaurant Manager Yi Biyi handed over the fund to the district officer.

Belait households receive Zakat fund

A total of BND44,850 was distributed among 87 family heads and their 180 dependents in the Belait District at RPN Kampong Pandan Mosque on Monday.

Director of Islamic Da’wah Centre and committee member of the issuance of Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh presented the tithe money.

This year, MUIB distributed BND1,957,580 in Zakat funds to 3,130 heads of family and 10,776 dependents considered poor and destitute in preparation for the upcoming Hari
Raya preparations.
