Eight charitable organisations and nine private schools in the country on Sunday received BND52,800 in donations from Teng Yun Temple in a ceremony at Emperor’s Court Restaurant.
Permanent Secretary (Community) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari was the guest of honour along with her husband Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Kadir bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Sahibul Kahar Pengiran Anak Haji Mohd Yusof.
Teng Yun Temple Executive Committee Chairman Lee Eng Ching said, “The teaching and motto of the Teng Yun Temple is ‘Be committed to always doing good and carrying out charity and helping the needy’.”
He recalled a historic instance in 1960s, whereby Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam made a BND45,000 donation to the Bandar Seri Begawan Teng Yun Temple, for which until today, “we are very grateful and thankful”.
The donations include BND4,000 to Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA). Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak, who is also the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the DANA, received the donation from the guest of honour.

Meanwhile, the Brunei-Muara District Orphans Fund, Temburong District Orphans Fund, Tutong District Orphans Fund, and Belait District Orphans Fund each received BND3,000.
Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam and National Welfare Body Fund each received BND3,000 and the Seria Old Folks Home received BND1,000.
Eight Chinese schools also received donations during the ceremony including Chung Hwa Middle School Bandar Seri Begawan with BND3,000; while BND2,000 was handed to Chung Ching Middle School, Seria; Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait; Chung Hwa School, Labi; Chung Lian School, Sungai Liang; Chung Hwa School Kiudang, Tutong; Chung Hwa School Tutong; Pai Yuek School, Temburong; and St Andrew’s School.
In addition, BND10,800 was donated to support the education of four students in Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Lee Eng Ching also personally donated BND4,200 to sponsor school fees of a student (BND2,700) and Pusat Ehsan (BND1,500).
Chinese Ambassador-designate to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo, Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin, Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Lau How Teck, Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the MCYS Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud and Teng Yun Temple Deputy Chairman Tiah Eng Beng were also present.
