PROSECUTORS substituted 11 charges with 21 in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday in a case involving a local man who allegedly scammed people out of their money with the promise of successful recruitment into the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amiriah binti Haji Ali’s charges against Azman bin Haji Ibrahim allege that in the period from July 2018 to January this year, he cheated 11 individuals of between BND1,000 to BND6,000, promising the victims and their children successful enrolment into the RBPF. In one of the 21 charges, the defendant allegedly conned one of his victims into purchasing two non-existent Yamaha-engined boats.

Azman denied all the charges before presiding Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran Haji Md Yusof, who adjourned the case to March 20.
