Centre helps senior citizens lead active life

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports – through the Community Development Department (JAPEM) in cooperation with the Temburong Senior Citizen Activity Centre – has established its centre at Bumiputera Building Main Complex in Pekan Bangar, Temburong Dsitrict.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin officiated the ceremony.

Legislative Council member and Mukim Bokok Penghulu Yang Berhormat Haji Emran bin Haji Sabtu, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan, Acting Director of Community Development Rostinah binti Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Sura Pahlawan Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Tahir as well as penghulus and village heads attended.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Acting Imam of Puni Mosque Haji Mohd Syahmi bin Haji Tuah. This was followed by a speech by Yang Berhormat Haji Emran who is also the temporary administrative committee manager of the Temburong Senior Citizen Activity Centre.

After signing a plaque, the minister witnessed a kelupis wrapping competition, exhibition as well as the sale of products from each village and mukim in the Temburong District, which included fruits and traditional cakes.

The Temburong Senior Citizen Activity Centre hopes to fulfil the needs of senior citizens to continue to enjoy an active life and get involved in programmes catered for them.

It also hopes to attract youth and community involvement in social welfare activities geared towards an integrated and knowledgeable society.
