Census to be conducted in three stages next year

The Population and Housing Census (BPP) 2021, the sixth census of its kind conducted in Brunei Darussalam, will be implemented in three stages.

The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES), Ministry of Finance and Economy, in collaboration with the Brunei-Muara District Office, Ministry of Home Affairs held a dialogue session with penghulus and village heads in the Brunei-Muara District yesterday.

The dialogue was aimed at increasing awareness on BPP 2021 and served as a platform to strengthen ties between JPES, penghulus and village heads in ensuring the smooth implementation of the census.

The first is the house listing stage by kampong/area in each district from January 20, 2021 to February 21, 2021. The second stage is the e-Census implementation from April 20, 2021 to June 21, 2021. The third stage comprises face-to-face interview between July 20, 2021 and August 2, 2021.

The census will cover citizens, permanent residents and temporary residents in the Sultanate in 2021. Data collected through BPP 2021 will provide information on the population by demographic, social and economic characteristics as well as information on the total stock of living quarters together with basic housing facilities or amenities.

Legislative Council members, Penghulu of Mukim Gadong ‘A’ Yang Berhormat Haji Tahamit bin Haji Nudin; Village Head of Kampong Limau Manis Yang Berhormat Haji Mohimin bin Haji Johari @ Jahari; Village Head of Kampong Masjid Lama, Pekan Muara, Sabun and Pelumpong Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman; Penghulu of Mukim Kota Batu Yang Berhormat Naim bin Haji Kamis; and Penghulu of Mukim Berakas ‘B’ Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Ali bin Pengiran Maon were present during the dialogue session.

JPES Director General Hajah Mariah binti Haji Yahya and Acting Assistant Brunei-Muara District Officer Amir Amnan bin Junaidi also participated.

JPES senior statistics officer Norizan binti Abdullah delivered a presentation on BPP 2021, followed by question-and-answer and information sharing sessions.
