The Embassy of Timor-Leste in Brunei Darussalam collaborated with the Brunei Timor-Leste Friendship Association (BTFA) to hold the first BTFA celebration at the embassy in Jalan Kebangsaan yesterday.

Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud was the guest of honour.

Ambassador of Iran to Brunei Darussalam Homeira Rigi Zirouki attended as the special guest.

Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Brunei Darussalam Abel Guterres, in a welcoming speech, highlighted that a memorandum of understanding will soon be signed between Brunei and Timor-Leste in the aspects of sending manpower from Timor-Leste to the Sultanate after a productive meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The ambassador also said that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which has seen reciprocal visits as well as cultural and sporting activities.

The event acknowledged organisations and individuals who have made contributions to the embassy in areas of education, culture and sports in context of bilateral relations, both at the government and people-to-people levels between the two countries.
