Celebrating spirit of patriotism

The International School Brunei (ISB) hosted a series of special National Day assemblies recently in celebration of Brunei Darussalam’s 39th National Day.

Students at the Sungai Hanching campus were treated to a showcase of the Sultanate’s cultural heritage and history, presented by first and second Malay language students in the primary and secondary schools.

Four separate assemblies were held, catering to different key stage groups. Each assembly began with the singing of national anthem, followed by creative presentations of traditional Brunei folk tales, songs, and dances.

The primary school assemblies also featured special cultural showcases by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. Other stages during the primary assembly were led by students in Year 4, 5 and 6.

The secondary assemblies, curated and led by Year 12 students, incorporated a creative retelling of The Tale of Nakhoda Manis, a spirited reading of the poetry Tanah Airku Tercinta, and a guest performance by singer/songwriter and ISB alumna Aisyah Zulkarnain.

Executive Principal and Chief Executive Officer of ISB Dr Stephen Kendall-Jones said, “We are proud to support the National Day celebration and its theme, ‘Menjayakan Wawasan Negara’ with our Bruneian citizens and residents through assemblies that promote cultural heritage, local traditions, and Brunei Vision 2035.”

The assemblies were held to instil the spirit of patriotism and nationalism in the students, as they were reminded of the significance of the occasion and the importance of keeping the spirit of patriotism alive.
