In celebration of Kuwait’s 62nd National Day and the 32nd Liberation Day, Ambassador of Kuwait to Brunei Darussalam Salah Mubarak Musleh Al-Mutairi in a message said, “Under the motto of ‘Dignity and Pride’, Kuwait marked the occasion with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm.

“I avail myself of this opportunity to convey to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the government and the people of Kuwait my sincere heartfelt congratulations on this cherished occasion.

“This year, Brunei Darussalam and Kuwait will mark 33 years of cordial relations, which have continued to grow over the decades under the support of our wise leaderships. Both countries share many similarities such as religious, cultural values and generosity. They are important donors in dealing with natural disasters, humanitarian issues and eradication of poverty.

“His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Majesty’s Government made an invaluable contribution to the development, prosperity and peace of this region and beyond,” the ambassador said.

“Brunei-Kuwait ties have seen notable development since the state visit of the late Amir His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Brunei Darussalam in 2016. The visit was to reciprocate of His Majesty’s official visit to Kuwait in 2015. As such, the achievements made in our relations would not have been possible, had it not been for the support of our wise leaderships.

“Furthermore, the relationship gained momentum through bilateral engagements. High-rank officials keep in regular touch. On the sidelines of the 77th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Kuwait’s former Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Al-Sabah, met Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof. The ministers discussed bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. Both sides reiterated the need to continue building on the distinguished ties to serve the interests of both countries.

“Despite many challenges, both countries made substantive progress in the bilateral relationship by strengthening the multifaceted and long-standing dynamic partnership. The Joint Commission, chaired by ministers of foreign affairs, is awaiting its first meeting which will be coordinated through the diplomatic channels.

“In addition, there will be more opportunities to boost the cooperation, especially following the trail of meetings held by the Joint Committee on Economic and Technical Cooperation (JCM) that have focussed on broadening bilateral cooperation, and the fourth meeting of the JCM is expected to be hosted by Kuwait in the near future.”
