The Youth Development Centre (YDC) Carnival (Mini Expo) is a final-year entrepreneurial project to nurture entrepreneurship talents to encourage innovation and enhance in teamwork, resilience and confidence to run a business to generate income independently with the skills learnt, said Assistant Director of Youth Development Centre Fauziah binti Haji Mohd Salleh. She said this during the launch of the carnival at Dewan Muhibbah, Brunei-Muara District Office yesterday.
“It is one of YDC’s initiatives to ensure that the centre’s trainees and graduates have a direction in terms of improving marketability and employability,” she added.
The programme, she said, “is in line with YDC’s initiative to become a centre that produces responsible youth possessing a strong identity to become future leaders and contribute to the development of the country in line with the Brunei Vision 2035”.
The three-day event, which concludes tomorrow, was launched by Permanent Secretary (Youth) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports cum guest of honour Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin. Forty-eight vendors, comprising nine YDC trainees, 17 alumni of the centre’s entrepreneurship programme and entrepreneurs are participating in the carnival.
Activities such as mini games, sharing session with entrepreneurs, gulingtangan performance and Ikebana demonstration, colouring for kids, Nerf games and archery, traditional treats, live cooking demonstration and ‘Kids Got Talent’ have been lined up for the carnival.
The guest of honour witnessed the presentation of The Brunei Book of Records certification to YDC for the longest Swiss and sushi rolls. He also presented certificates of participation in the Kasih Komuniti programme to six agencies and strategic partners.
