Career expo, briefings at convocation festival

Workshops and briefings enlivened Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) 12th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj (Convocation Festival) Career Expo at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday.

The agencies involved included the Recruitment Office of the Military Police of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; the Recruitment Office of the Fire and Rescue Department; the Syariah Affairs Department of the Halal Food Control Division; as well as representatives from the private sector such as Al-Huffaz Management; McDonalds Brunei; the Brunei Darussalam Arbitration Centre Berhad; Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) and Shell Live Brunei.

The Career Expo, held as part of the UNISSA Convocation Festival, is organised to provide students information about career opportunities.

Visitors are advised to bring along their resumes and documents to the expo.

In addition, workshops and lectures related to careers, motivation and counselling were also held.

Among those included the Event Organiser Workshop, as well as an Emcee Workshop where participants learn skills such as writing scripts.

A briefing titled ‘Career Personality Analysis’ delivered by officers from the Ministry of Education aimed to prepare students for challenges during their job hunt.

Department of Schools’ Head of Career Education Unit Hajah Masnah binti Haji Mohd Daud; Career Counsellor Hajah Norseriduriah binti Haji Damit; and Education Officer Haji Halip bin Bujang briefed students on identifying fitting personalities to match careers and in pursuing their further studies.

Some 69 UNISSA students and 18 alumni attended the briefing, joined by 43 sixth form students from Hassanal Bolkiah Boys Arabic Secondary School along with their teachers.

The festival also features a bazaar organised by the university’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Unit with vendors promoting their products.

The public can visit the UNISSA Convocation Festival Career Expo and Bazaar. The career expo and bazaar is on its last day today and open from 8am to 4.30pm.
