Career development more important than ever

Izah Azahari

The nature and structure of careers are rapidly changing, and as a result, career development has become more important and challenging than ever. People are less likely to stay in a single job or field of specialisation. Professionals often have to continuously learn and acquire new skills for effective performance in many jobs.

Attendees learnt this at a public lecture titled ‘Discover Your Personality, Career, and Leadership Strengths’ co-hosted by Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L) and AC-ACE Creative Training Services (ACTS) at the C3L, Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA) building, UBD.

ACTS Behavioural Consultant and Chief Enabling Officer Ian Tan, one of Asia’s pioneer Master Behavioural Consultants specialising in behavioural analysis, leadership development, and strength-based change was invited to speak at the lecture.

The public lecture shared how new job and talent trends can create an environment in which one can regularly evaluate one’s capabilities and career plans, becoming more “career self-resilient”.

At the end of the lecture, participants obtained a better understanding of the career development framework as well as a heightened awareness and clarity that will help them in their career development.

The event served as another milestone for C3L in providing opportunities to lifelong learners and professionals, in partnership with the private sector, by offering development short courses for upskilling and reskilling among professionals in the Sultanate.
