The elderly, who are rich in experience and wisdom, should always be respected and cared for, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin said.
He made these comments as the guest of honour at the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Belait District Senior Citizen Association (PWE) at the RPN Kampong Pandan Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) yesterday.
Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan expressed gratitude in attending the association’s milestone.
The minister reflected on the members of the Belait District PWE who contributed to the association’s success.
The minister said, “A journey that spans 25 years is not something to be taken lightly. As in a shared collective mindset, it is possible to achieve the goal of inspiring and encouraging senior citizens to take part in community work, along with religious and national activities, through coordinated cooperation.”
On the association’s growth from 25 members in 1995 to 126 at present, Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan said, “This is proof of the members’ hard work and dedication, which resulted in the association’s resilience in continuing to conduct activities throughout the years.
“The question that constantly needs to be asked is: What is the impact that the association wants to achieve for the community, not only at present, but in the future for realising the nation’s goals of Brunei Vision 2035.”
Belait District PWE President Dr Haji Mohd Shah bin Haji Ahmad and ceremony Chairman Haji David bin Haji Kassim spoke on the 25-year legacy of the Belait District PWE as well as the achievements and activities conducted every year. The minister was presented a souvenir, before being invited to cut a cake. The minister toured the booths showcasing the association’s activities and services.
