Car theft suspects held following public tip-off

TWO suspects believed to be involved in a reported car theft were detained thanks to a public tip-off.

Personnel from the Bandar Seri Begawan Central Police Station and Tutong Police Station of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) were involved in the operation.

Both suspects were brought to the Magistrate’s Court for a case hearing and conviction yesterday. Permanent resident Mohammad Rahmat bin Abdul Rahman, 38, was convicted under Section 379 of the Criminal Penal Code Chapter 22. He is believed to be involved in a number of crimes.

Shawaludin bin Ali Rahman, a 28-year-old local, was convicted under Section 411 Criminal Penal Code Chapter 22 for dishonesty in receiving stolen goods.

The court approved the remand application (until February 25) to allow for further investigation and evidence collection.
