A car in Kampong Katok ‘B’ caught fire, engulfing its engine and dashboard on Sunday. Six firefighters from the Beribi Fire Station, led by DSO Mohd Afran bin Minudin, responded to a distress call and brought the fire under control within three minutes, stated the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) yesterday.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire and damages are under investigation.

The FRD advised the public to ensure that their vehicles are in working condition, and to regularly check the wiring and inspect for any leakage from the pump.

The department also stated that high electric current can cause cables to burn.

The FRD is conducting fire safety talks and fire marshal courses focussing on aspects of safety in addressing emergencies and the correct way of using a fire extinguisher.

In case of emergency, call 995.
