Camp boosts students’ Arabic Language skills

Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through its Arabic Language Faculty, and the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Brunei Darussalam held its first Regional Arabic Language Camp. The appreciation ceremony for the programme was held at the Youth Centre in the capital yesterday.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pehin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Yussof was the guest of honour.

With the theme ‘Together Innovative and Enhancing Skills’, the camp served as a platform for students to interact using the Arabic Language in a conducive environment.

The four-day programme began on February 3 and ended yesterday.

The event was participated by 112 students from UNISSA, Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPUSB), Universiti Malaysia (UM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, Mindanao State University, the Philippines, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Indonesia dan UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Indonesia.

The camp was organised by the academic staff of Arabic Language Faculty of UNISSA with assistance from foreign universities’ academic staff. Arabic Language activities and motivation activities were held to encourage participants to converse in Arabic. Other activities include Best Logo Design competition, acting competition, public speaking and Arabic language games.

Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Brunei Darussalam Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel bin Rashed bin Hashel Al-Maskari, Dean of Arabic Language Faculty at UNISSA Associate Professor Dr Siti Sara binti Haji Ahmad in her capacity as the Chairperson of the working committee for the camp, UNISSA officers and representatives from Diplomatic Corps as well as local and foreign institutions were also present.

According to the chairperson, due to the positive responses from participants, the camp will be held annually on a rotational basis.

Next year, Universiti Malaysia will host the camp.
