ANN/KHMER TIMES – Cambodian authorities in Svay Rieng province apprehended five individuals in connection with the murder of a Chinese national in Bavet City. The victim, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, was discovered deceased on Friday.
Officials in Svay Rieng announced the arrests on Saturday, following an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death. The suspects were Ros Vansy, Mon Oun, Chhoeun Yet, Hean Bralung and Mong Chiphat, a citizen of Myanmar. All five are in custody and have been handed over to the provincial specialised unit for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
According to preliminary police reports, the Bavet Administrative Police Station received a call at 7.45am on Friday from the Good Luck 2 Company. The company informed police that one of their staff members had become unwell at an apartment building owned by the company in Chrak Leav Village, Bavet Sangkat. The man was being transported to a hospital in a company vehicle but died before arrival. His remains were later taken to Po Thmey Pagoda in Chrak Leav Village.
Upon receiving the report, police secured the scene and awaited the arrival of forensic experts. At 10.40am, the Provincial Police Commissioner assigned Deputy Assistant Commissioner Kim Lay to lead the investigation.
The team, which included officers from the Technical and Scientific Police Office, the Bavet City Police Inspectorate, and forensic expert Dr Thy Sopheaktra from Chi Phu Referral Hospital, began inspecting the scene with the coordination of Deputy Prosecutor Lam Peng Sean.
The victim’s body was found in the back seat of a black Lexus RX350 with the license plate Phnom Penh 2BR-3503. He was dressed in a white T-shirt and shorts, with his body positioned awkwardly across the seat. His left leg was folded, and he appeared to have been hastily placed in the vehicle before being transported to the pagoda.
