Members of Brunei Senior Citizens Organisation (WEB) and Senior Citizen Activity Centre (PKWE) from all four districts should assist the government in ensuring that the agenda towards healthy, active and productive ageing can be implemented systematically.
This was stated by WEB President Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Mohd Don in his welcome speech at a Hari Raya gathering organised by the association at PGGMB School Hall in Kampong Sungai Akar yesterday.
He said His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Government is committed to supporting independent, self-esteemed and respectful senior citizens.
The government through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports will continue to provide comprehensive and quality services to senior citizens. Organisations including WEB and PKWE play a vital role in uniting the country’s senior citizens to support the efforts towards achieving the nation’s vision, Haji Abu Bakar said.
He said for WEB to be recognised by the Registration of Society (ROS) as a non-governmental organisation, it must strive to function as a whole taking into consideration the welfare of senior citizens as well as religion in designing programmes and activities.
Collaborations such as a memorandum of understanding between WEB and Ministry of Religious Affairs to implement and carry out religious programmes must be continued as they are in line with the MCYS Strategic Plan in achieving Brunei Vision 2035, he said.
The event began with the recitation of Doa Selamat led by WEB Head of Religious Bureau Haji Ariffin bin Haji Hassan, followed by a donation presentation to orphans.
