GREEN Brunei called for youths aged 16 – 25 to register for the 6th Green Leaders Camp to be held from March 26 – 29 at the Sungai Kebun Sports Complex.
This camp is limited to 40 participants. Selection will be based on their experience or passion towards environmental conservation and having demonstrated strong leadership skills. The deadline for registration is March 18.
The camp aims to train youth leaders and youth mobilisation, through the exposure of issues and environmental initiatives led by non-government organisations in the country. It also aims to empower participants through a variety of workshops such as volunteerism, project management, urban planning and many others. The participants are also hoped to critically assess environmental problems facing the country and find possible solutions for those problems through discussions and activities.
The theme for this camp is ‘City Planning’. The programme will cover topics such as Importance of Green Space in Cities, Public Transportation Management, Socio-Culture of Kampong Ayer, Youth Volunteerism and many more. The camp will focus on the capacity building of youth for them to take action towards preserving the environment and ensuring the sustainability of our natural resources.
Participants will also undergo outdoor class and activities in Bandar Seri Begawan to do research, firefly watching and more. They will also participate in the Amazing Race-inspired challenges, where they have to complete all obstacles around selected areas at Sungai Kebun Sports Complex with a limited amount of budget. The purpose is for them to work in groups and learn about urban planning, leadership, teamwork, financial management, critical thinking while acting as groups of back-packers.
After the programme, participants are expected to organise follow up projects or community service with Green Brunei’s support. Over 150 youths had participated in the event and 12 groups comprising alumni have successfully conducted a post-event project.
