The National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) has called on the need to improve the quality of matches and standard of refereeing in domestic competitions.
NFABD President Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan made the remarks during the closing ceremony of the New Referee Instructor Workshop at the Multi-purpose Hall of NFABD House on Friday.
“Any football activities involving a match need officials, players, coaches and others. Nevertheless, it is important that there is an increase in the quality of matches,” Pengiran Haji Matusin said.
“The quality of matches should increase not only because of teams who compete but also other parties play a similarly important role.
“Therefore, we need a high standard of refereeing. And those who participated in the workshop will be able to assist to realise such vision.
“We hope that once the season restarts, football will return and I am confident that we will come back with a big bang,” he said.
With the newly acquired head coach in K Rajagobal, Pengiran Haji Matusin said it is no doubt that his arrival will help improve the standards of domestic football.
The president also called on local players to be ready to represent the country for the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup scheduled next year.
“The name of the game now is we prepare for anything. Although we are restricted by COVID-19 now, we must always prepare.”
The seminar, conducted by NFABD Referee Director Abdul Razak Anuar and assisted by local instructors Degat Chandau and Md Yusof Zaki bin Haji Serudin, saw 14 individuals participating comprising football and futsal referees.
It covered both theory and practical sessions.
